The city had 12,328 housing units for an average density of about 397 per square kilometer. Kennesaw had more than 11,000 households as of 2010 census, with a significant portion of the population aged 24 years or younger. The name “Kennesaw” was derived from the Cherokee term “gah-nee-sah,” which is translated as a burial ground or cemetery.
